Today in math we've learned about rotation symmetry.

Rotation symmetry just means how many times a polygon fits onto its self to complete one rotation.
For example:








This flower can fit 9 times to its self.














Then we had to find the angle of rotation. Since it has 9 rotation symmetry, we have to divide it by 360 degrees. The reason why its 360 degrees is because the polygon used on the example above is fully turned which makes 360 degrees.





We then drew rotations on our graphs. The rotation can be clockwise or counter clockwise.
For example:















I choose Alvin to do the next blog.

  1. Good Job Elijah ! Great pictures , and great job on explaining the work . But , the last picture , its kinda hard to see the shape and what we did . Do you think you can highlight it in black or something? Just so its clearer to read . GOOD JOB THOUGH !

  3. Hey Elijah. Good job on specifically explaining what we did today. I clearly understood what you wrote about what we learned on the board. The way you explained rotation symmetry, and supported it with a picture. The way you explained how to find the angle of rotation. It was very specific and easy to understand. I would have to agree with Jerick and Kamille on the last picture, because it is a little hard to see. Try to use better colors next time. Other than that, everything was great! :)

  4. Lots of detail and info on rotations. The pictures give a more view on how to do the rotations. The last picture is hard to see, just like what Kamille and Jerick said, but other than that, good blog post Elijah!

  5. Awesome job Elijah! You did a very good job on explaining what we did today and explaining the pictures as well. Because you did a very good job on explaining everything we did, people who were away will then look at this blog and clearly understand it. I would have to say that I couldn't really see the last picture so maybe you should use a more bold color. For your next blog you should also add more colors to the text so it looks even more interesting to read but otherwise your blog was well done !

  6. super duper job elijah. every thing was very understandable, but one thing to point out is your last picture it as very hard to see what you were explainin there. Try a color thats more darker next time. but other then that great job elijah !

  7. Nice job Elijah, the way you used colourful pictures made the blog really stand out. The way you explained about rotations was easy to understand and I agree with Sharmaine I dont really understand the last part with the gird and stuff. Anyways wonderful job Elijah.

  9. Awesome Job Elijah! I've had issues understanding the terms "Angle of Rotation" and "Rotation Symmetry" I didn't knew it until I read this post! It was really helpful! The only thing I have trouble about the post it the picture of the rectangle. It's kinda hard to see. Anyways, keep up the good work !

  10. I argee with jerick. It is hard for me to see the last picture as well, i think that orange would be easy to see in a coordinate grid since it's black but other than that, good job elijah!(:

  11. Wow great job Elijah! The diagrams really helped. I agree on what the others said that the last picture, the one with the graph, was a bit hard to make out. One more thing: when you said the flower fits into itself 9 times, you could've added that that is the Order of Rotation. But you did such a neat job. Keep it up :)

  13. Great job Elijah! Your post was simple and easy to understand. I think you should have labeled the center of rotation, in the last picture. Also the axis. You used nice colors, but the one in the picture was difficult to see. Great job though!!

But for the last picture, I couldn't really see how it looked. But for your next blog, you should use more colour and make your graph pictures more clear.

  16. Nice job Elijah! Your post was very neat and easy to understand. The first I noticed that you got wrong was this part "Since it has 9 rotation symmetry, we have to divide it by 360 degrees." We don't divide it by 360 degrees, we're suppose to divide 360 degrees by the order of rotation (9). Your last picture was a little bit harder to understand, just because of the color. So next time choose colors that wont blend in with each other. Also, you could've labeled the center of rotation, like what Michelle said. But over all, good job!

  19. Great job elijah, great job. I honestly can say that if i came from a different place and didnt know anything about symmetry, i will learn just by looking at your blog post. This obviously meant that the way you talked about what we did today and how they were solved was clearly understandable from the pictures to the explanations itself.Although there were mistakes you still did good. Keep it up !
