Today in math class we worked on surface area questions in the textbook, and each of us were chosen to do a question and create a scribe post of how we solved the question.

red 2(3)(1) = 2 sides, length 3, width 1

light green 2(2)(1) = 2 sides, length 2, width 1

purple 2(1)(1)= 2 sides, length 1, width 1

brown 1(4)(1)= 1 side, length 4, width 1

black 1(4)(1)= 1 side , length 4, width 1

dark green 1(4)(1) = 1 side, length 4, width 1

grey 1(4)(1)= 1 side, length 4, width 1

Simplify

2(4)(1) +2(3)(1) +2(2)(1) +2(1)(1) +1(4)(1) +1(4)(1) +1(4)(1) +1(4)(1)

2(4) +2(3) +2(2) +2(1) +1(4) +1(4) +1(4) +1(4)

8+6+4+2+4+4+4+4

= 36 cm2

b)

front and back= 2(2)(5) length 2, width 5

top and bottom= 2(1)(5) length 1, width 5

two sides= 2(2)(1) length 2, width 1

Simplify

2(2)(5) + 2(1)(5) + 2(2)(1)

2(10) + 2(5) + 2(2)

20+10+4

= 34 cm2

The surface area of a rectangular prism is slightly different, because the cubes are placed differently.
